On January 29, 2025, Huawei and Chinese automobile manufacturer JAC announced the development of two new models under their ultra-luxury brand, Maextro. This initiative follows the unveiling of their first model, the Maextro S800, which debuted at a Huawei press conference in November 2024. The S800, a full-sized luxury sedan, boasts a starting pre-sale price of RMB 1 million (approximately $137,900) and features a luxurious design coupled with Huawei’s advanced driver assistance system. The vehicle also garnered significant attention during its appearance on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, China’s most-watched television program, ahead of its anticipated launch in the coming months.
The Maextro S800 is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2025, offering both a purely electric version and a model with a range extender. The car is projected to be priced between RMB 1 and 1.5 million, positioning it competitively within the luxury electric vehicle market.
This collaboration between Huawei and JAC aligns with China’s burgeoning automotive industry. In 2023, China exported 4.91 million vehicles, marking a 57.9% year-on-year growth and establishing the country as the world’s largest automobile exporter for the first time. Notably, 1.203 million of these exports were new energy vehicles (NEVs), reflecting a 77.6% increase from the previous year.
The introduction of the Maextro S800 signifies a strategic move by Huawei and JAC to capture a share of the luxury electric vehicle segment, leveraging advanced technology and design to meet the evolving demands of consumers in China and potentially in international markets.
